Illustration agency and publisher Pocko approached us to create an animated feature to accompany their touring exhibition of customized russian Matryoshka dolls entitled 'Pockoshko'. The exhibition began in Magma bookstores London as part of the London Design Festival. The dolls are to be auctioned in aid of a Russian childrens charity in a final exhibition 'To Russia With Love'.
We worked with Pocko illustrator Kinpro to create a title sequence stylistically influenced by classic title designers Maurice Binder and Saul Bass. The animation depicts the journey of the Matryoshkas and evokes the creative processes of the artists, the development and individuality of an idea. The animation was directed and conceived by Oliver Durant and Bruna Guerreiro working with illustrator Chisato Shinya'Kinpro'
The soundtrack was composed and performed by the amazing talents of Shervin Shaeri and Jamie Masters and recorded at Adelphoi music
Shervin describes a shot -
'One of my favorite sections now is where the seed bounces around in the earth, originally i played singular descending notes on a piano to emulate the movement, Jamie really gave this a lift and replaced it with singular notes that eventually turn into a stomp of jagged chords as it falls to the bottom. I think that these kinds of sync points are sometimes what make working to moving image really fun and exciting'
